CPS Energy, one of the largest community-owned providers of electric and natural gas services in the U.S., is set to transform its operations through a strategic partnership with Oracle. By adopting Oracle’s modern cloud platform, CPS Energy aims to integrate data and processes across its utility, enhancing service delivery for over 1.3 million customers and aligning with its Vision 2027 strategic plan for rapid transformation in San Antonio.

This move by CPS Energy would represent Oracle’s growing influence in the utility sector, as the technology company now provides services to six of the ten largest municipal utilities in the United States. Established in 1860, CPS Energy serves nearly 930,114 electric customers and 381,379 natural gas customers across San Antonio and neighboring counties, maintaining some of the lowest customer bills among the nation’s 20 largest cities.

Evan O’Mahoney, Chief Information Officer of CPS Energy, sees this collaboration with Oracle as a revolutionary step toward streamlining internal operations and enhancing customer engagement. Oracle’s extensive suite of cloud applications, including those for finance, operations, human resources, customer service, and capital projects, promises to increase efficiency and innovation in CPS Energy’s operations.

Oracle’s asset management technologies enable CPS Energy to track and analyze its infrastructure’s performance, helping the utility optimize capital project investments.

This new platform is central to CPS Energy’s commitment to evolving its customer services, offering innovative rate options and affordability outreach programs that ensure equitable and sustainable energy services for all. By leveraging Oracle’s AI-enhanced suite, CPS Energy can seamlessly connect its finance, HR, supply chain, and customer experience processes to gain deeper insights and enhance the overall customer and employee experience.
